New growth on the Philodendron brandtianum, also known as the silver leaf Philodendron, starts out with a vivid yellow or orange color, and gradually transitions to a mix of green and silver as the leaves mature
Water
Water when 30 - 50% dry. Prefers damp-ish soil but is easily overwatered. (See ‘Soil.’) Tolerates drought for short periods. Overwatering = Yellow leaves and rotting stem. Underwatering = Leaves droop and curl inward, brown leaf tips.
Humidity
50% - 60% is ideal. Lower is usually fine.
Too low = Brown leaf tips.
Light
Medum - bright, indirect light from an E or filtered W window is ideal to enhance leaf color contrast. Too much direct sun = Burnt leaves.
Too little light = Faded leaves.
Temperature
Prefers 65° - 95°F. Tolerates 50°F min. for short periods of time. Move from window in cold weather. Too cold = Stunted growth
Soil & Repotting
Well-draining potting mix that retains moisture but aerates well. Add bark or perlite to loosen soil and increase drainage. Does not tolerate heavy soil. Tolerates being slightly rootbound but growth will be stunted.
Pruning & Propagation
Fast grower. Prune to control shape, size and encourage bushy growth. Easily propagated with stem cuttings.
